Weʼre raising £55,000 to To supply a £15 food hamper to every single primary school child eligible for free school meals within Redcar & Cleveland this Christmas.
Our area has some unique pressures; Covid is potentially making things harder for young people. A few facts that stand out (all data pre Covid – reasonable to say it’s worse now?):
- Nearly a third (30%) of Redcar and Cleveland Local Authority area communities are in the top 10% most deprived in England
- Redcar and Cleveland LA is ranked 13th most deprived compared to the other 317 Local Authority areas (in England)
- Over a quarter of households (26%) have children (under the age of 16) that live-in low-income households
These are not just households where no one works, but households where adults do work, sometimes more than one job, and it’s a struggle to make ends meet. For families working in places suffering the most from Covid, things are tough.
The aim of the Christmas project is to work with every primary school in Redcar and Cleveland to provide all 3600 kids, who are eligible for free school meals, with a food hamper to feed them over Christmas for the 10 days holidays.
We need to show the children of today the true meaning of kindness, doing this will help them understand that the world is a better place with kindness and support.Mike Hind (MBE)
